Communion

The question doesn’t matter.

It’s forming it that counts

to let me cut into whatever

it is you’re talking about.

So it’s just a simple Q&A:

string enough of them together

and they pass for a way 


to hold up my end of things.

In time I bet you won’t even

notice I recycle a Q or 2—

I’m certain I won’t.

The answer doesn’t matter.

I take that back: It does—

long enough for me to share

the appropriate eyes and ohs

until you say the opposite

just a few minutes later and

I can switch from concern

to what I take right then

for unending contentment

as the angel says choose 


between thoughts and feelings

and I recall that I don’t.
